About the Program
In the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), resourcefulness is essential. Launched in 2025, the MBW Sewing Program is our newest training initiative, designed to equip USVI youth with foundational sewing techniques and the confidence to create with their hands.
Trainees learn essential skills such as threading needles and bobbins, sewing with various seam allowances and stitches, ironing, measuring and cutting fabric for patterns, top‑stitching, seam ripping, and finishing.
Along the way, universal skills such as attention to detail, precision, problem-solving, and teamwork are strengthened. Handmade items from the program are available for purchase at MBW’s Café & Bakery and at our Retail Store at Paradise Point.

Stan Lorbach
Marine Trainer
Dr. Stanley C. Lorbach has been teaching the youth of St. Thomas for more than 20 years. Whether teaching biochemistry, molecular biology, or microbiology at UVI or sailing, welding, and diesel mechanics at Ivanna Eudora Kean, he has always had an intense passion for educating and training our young men and women. At My Brother’s Workshop he will instruct students in boat construction and repair, diesel and outboard mechanics, as well as welding, fiber glassing, carpentry, plumbing, and 12/24 volt systems as they relate to both sailboats and powerboats.
